Objectives and Key Results (OKRs)

From the very beginning, this self-described scrappy start-up has been committed to ‘measuring what matters.’ However, like most companies, they found themselves knee-deep in the OKR weeds and felt bogged down by the process. They started to question if OKRs were worth it.

A quick assessment of their OKR work to date revealed the need for a handful of strategic conversations which would allow them to efficiently focus on the critical few Key Results (and get out of the weeds). Once they created their list of laser-focused key results, we helped them customize their OKR process.

Explicitly defined metrics are part of their robust and streamlined monitoring efforts. If a key result is about to veer off-track, they know which critical questions to ask to ensure they get it back on track (or confidently pivot, if appropriate).

Today this group not only measures what matters, but also talks about what matters. There is a renewed excitement about and appreciation for the transformative power of OKRs.

The Leadership Team sees how the new OKR process contributes to a culture that values problem-solving and enables heightened employee engagement.

Executive Coaching and Alignment

It takes a high-performing executive team to successfully transition from a small start-up to a high-growth company.

We helped the co-founders of a SaaS company address the core leadership challenges that come with growth. The customized executive coaching and team development sessions we designed quickly uncovered conflicting assumptions about the company’s vision and direction.

Equipped with effective communication tools we provided, the Executive Team engaged in productive conversations resulting in strategic clarity and alignment. Next, we helped the team define roles, refine the organizational structure and streamline key business processes.

The co-founders now focus their energy and talents on taking their software (and company) to the next level. Thanks to the communication tools they’ve been putting to use, the Executive Team consistently engages in healthy dialogue, resolves conflict productively and makes decisions more efficiently than ever (all of which has come in handy during the COVID-19 pandemic).

This team is confidently managing exponential growth and working through uncertainty.

It’s essential to know where things are going well and where there are opportunities for improvement. We use straight-forward tools and techniques to help organizations drive performance and solve problems.

A Go-od Story about Performance

Data-Driven Decision-Making

Developing a culture of patient safety was a critical priority for our client. Knowing where to focus their efforts was difficult given the daunting pile of confusing data from their most recent Patient Safety Culture Survey. They needed help making sense of it all so they would know where to focus their time, attention and resources.

Using the existing data, we created streamlined, easy-to-read reports and facilitated a series of thoughtful conversations so everyone could see what was going well and where there were opportunities for improvement. Empowered by an understanding of the data, Unit Leaders worked with their staff to quickly identify strengths and critical priorities. Using the Unit Plans, the Senior Leadership Team was able to identify hospital-wide issues that needed a coordinated response and directly contributed to the hospital’s strategic objectives. The most immediate impact of this work was on employee engagement. Unit leaders and staff said they felt:

  • Heard because the survey results were being discussed in detail for the first time;
  • Appreciated as their strengths were celebrated;
  • Supported because their leaders understood the challenges they faced and were committed to addressing those challenges;
  • Empowered to make decisions that would affect their unit and patients.

We are thrilled to share that this hospital is being recognized for their outstanding patient safety performance.
